Matthew Broom, Candidate for CFP® Certification
I was born and raised here in the metro Atlanta area. I've lived in the 'burbs, out in the sticks, went to college in Atlanta—go Panthers—and now I find myself in the foothills of the North Georgia mountains with my beautiful wife, Elena. Every third day you can find me working as a firefighter/paramedic in the metro Atlanta area. My purpose has always been to help people. I didn't know how to do that upon graduating with a B.B.A. in Business Economics—so I joined the fire service.
My interest in finance and economics eventually came full circle after marrying my sweetheart. We were determined to lay a solid financial foundation for our future family, so I dove in headfirst reading and listening to every personal finance resource I could find. I found myself captivated with it all. We paid off $25,000 in debt our first year of marriage, and we never looked back.
Since then, I've gone back to school, completed my CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ coursework through the University of Georgia, and passed the rigorous CFP® exam. Now if I'm not at the fire station or out and about with Elena and Pepper—our spoiled pomeranian—you can find me doing my best to help folks like you live an abundant life while building wealth for the future.
What is a Certified Financial Planner™ and Why Does it Matter to You?
The CFP® certification is a voluntary certification. It is recognized in the United States and a number of other countries for its (1) high standard of professional education; (2) stringent code of conduct and standards of practice; and (3) ethical requirements that govern professional engagements with clients.
To attain the right to use the CFP® marks, an individual must satisfactorily fulfill the following requirements: Education, Examination, Experience, and Ethics.
I have completed all required education, passed the CFP® exam, and am now working towards the necessary experience requirement.
